Removal and installation of steering column and universal joint assembly

Remove

  1. Remove the front compartment storage box assembly. Refer to Removal and installation of front compartment storage box assembly 

  2. Remove the multi-function switch. Refer to Removal and installation of multi-function switch 

  3. Remove the driver knee airbag module. Refer to Removal and installation of driver knee airbag module 

  4. Pry up 3 clips and move aside the instrument panel wiring harness.

  5. Remove 1 fixing bolt and detach the universal joint from the electric power steering gear with tie rod assembly.

    • Tightening torque: 35±3 N•m

  6. Remove 3 fixing nuts.

    • Tightening torque: 10±1 N•m

  7. Remove the steering column and universal joint assembly.

    1. Remove 1 fixing bolt.

      • Tightening torque: 50±5 N•m

    2. Remove 2 fixing nuts and take out the steering column and universal joint assembly.

      • Tightening torque: 25±3 N•m

    Caution

    Remove with the assistance of another maintenance technician to prevent injury caused by sudden falling.

Install

Caution

When installing the steering column and steering gear bolts, screw them in from the unthreaded side. Screwing in from the other side will lead to poor tightening, or even an accident. The side of the universal joint yoke without threads has a milled plane. Screw in bolts from this side.

  1. Install it in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Finish four-wheel alignment after installation. Refer to Four-wheel alignment
